Christina and William always knew they'd have a Monaghan wedding and Castle Leslie ticked all the boxes to make this happen. They had the best of the best when it comes to suppliers with The Lous on photos, The Rosehip and Berry Floral Studio on blooms, and Rabbit and the Fox on film.
This lovely couple met in the most unlikely of scenarios; at an indoor bowls competition, they were attending with grandparents. Christina explains how the romance started... “I actually wasn’t meant to be playing that night, but my Nana asked me to step in last minute as her partner couldn’t make it. William and I got chatting through a mutual friend and later on that night after we’d gone home, William asked his friend for my number.”
Well if that’s not the sweetest story we’ve ever heard, we don’t know what is. And the almost-foiled proposal was just as cute. “We woke up one Saturday morning, and William asked if I fancied a drive to the beach. I’d been out for my Christmas work do the night before and had no intentions of going out to the beach. So, that foiled that plan. Instead, he ended up just getting down on one knee in our kitchen while I was busy buttering my toast!”
When choosing a venue, the couple liked the idea of having the entire wedding and reception in one location, and they also wanted somewhere beside the water. “Castle Leslie just ticked every box. Plus there was the option of having the ceremony outside overlooking the lake – my dream. We just had to pray for good weather…”
When it came to planning their Monaghan wedding, DIY lover Christina was busy doing lots of arts and crafts. But when it came to keeping within budget? It wasn’t quite as easy for the couple. “As most wedding budgets go, you think you can do it for less and then that swiftly gets thrown out the window, once you visit venues and realise how much everything is going to be. Everything adds up and you can’t help but add in little extras. We were only going to do this once and the whole thing turned out so amazing. It was so worth every penny!”
Thankfully, the weather played a blinder for the couple, making sure their dream of an outdoor ceremony, overlooking the lake came true. “The day was just like a dream! I have to keep looking back at photos to remind myself it actually happened. It really couldn’t have been any more perfect. You plan everything so precisely and imagine what it will look like in your head, but you never really know how it’s all going to come together until you see it on the day. And, oh my goodness I was blown away by everything. I will always remember standing at the top of the aisle holding William's hand as we said our vows, with the lake in front of us, the sun beaming down on our faces and the birds singing. Just magical.”
