If you’ve got a particularly lovely home, and can’t think of anywhere else you’d rather be wed, then there are some things that you will need to consider. We’ve compiled our ultimate list of DIY backyard wedding venue considerations...

Celebrant

Marry Me Ireland offer a wide array of celebrants who will work with you to create a ceremony that reflects you both as a couple.

Marquee

If you plan on holding the whole wedding outside, you’ll need a marquee in case of rain or just for a place for people to gather. Try The Outdoor Wedding Company, Extreme Structures, LPM Bohemia, Tipi Faoi Na Realtai or Magnakata.

Power

You will need generators for lights and heaters. Companies like Generator Hire can sort you out.

Lighting

This can include fairy lights, festoon lights or bigger overhead lights, depending on the vibe you’re going for and how well lit the area is already.

Toilets

You need to take into consideration the amount of guests that will be there, and if your house only has one or two loos, hiring some in is the way forward. Rather than a bog standard portaloo, opt for something like VIP Luxury Loos.

Catering

Assuming that you won’t be slaving away in the kitchen, cooking your guests’ meals, you’ll need caterers. There are plenty of professional catering companies in Ireland, who will offer the full experience, including staff to wait the tables.

Furniture/Tablewear

For a slap up shindig at home, you’ll need a wide range of items from cutlery, glasses, plates, chairs and bar set ups.

Décor

If you’re going all DIY, rally the troops and get your bridal party or friends to give you a hand decorating the space.

Alcohol

Whether you plan on stocking a full free bar or strictly wine and bottled beer, you’ll need enough to make sure you don’t run out.

Permission!

If you live out in the middle of the countryside, chances are you won’t have to worry about annoying neighbours with music and chatter. However, if you live in a slightly more built up area, you will need to clear it with people around you first.

Cleaning

Your caterers will usually clear away all things food related, but there’ll still be a good chunk to clear away after. Hiring a professional cleaning company is a good idea, so you can enjoy the celebrations without too much hard work.

Plan B

What if it’s torrential rain on the day? Do you have a backup plan? If your house is big enough to sustain your guests, you may need to move everything indoors. If not, look into getting a more sturdy marquee structure with proper flooring and heating.
