One half of cake-making duo Cupcakes and Counting, Jen Rojas offers up some bridal hindsight to brides-to-be

Where: El Cigarral de las Mercedes, Spain

When: April, 2018

What I wish I'd known…

“It would have been nice to have had a little quality time with my husband, to get away from everyone, just the two of us. I would have loved to walk around the venue, soaking it all in and reminiscing about everything that had happened that brought us to this magical moment.”

The one I'd change…

“Looking back on our wedding day, I don't think I'd change anything. We wanted to have a destination wedding, surrounded by our nearest and dearest. We achieved all this and more.”

A planning mistake I made…

“Nothing major, but I wish I had assigned someone to mind our guest book and to have gone around and asked our guests to sign it. Just like your photos and videos, a guest book is such a priceless memento as it encapsulates not only the precious well wishes from your guests, but also the feelings and memories that come with their messages. It would have been nice to have something like this to look back on.”

I wish I'd invested more time in…

“Because it was a destination wedding, I really wish I had spent more time with my family and relations before and after our wedding. Everyone had their own trips planned and we also got caught in organising our own mini-moon that we sort of forgot to organise a reunion with our family pre and post-wedding.”

The thing that surprised me…

“My friends and family who travelled from all corners of the world to show their love for us. Also, our ceremony and wedding vows were so meaningful and so emotional that it absolutely caught me off guard.”
My best advice…
“After months and months of planning, your wedding day is over before you know it, so enjoy every minute of it. Don't get too fussed over the little things – nobody will notice! Don't listen to unsolicited advice – it's your wedding so you can do whatever you want. Lastly, be present on your wedding day and actually celebrate your beautiful union with each and every one of your guests.”
