Yeah we know, a wedding is about love and marriage and togetherness... But you want it to be 'gram-ready too, right? Read on for my 10 simple tips to creating the most Instagramable wedding ever.
First thing’s first, if you’re after a super Instagramable wedding, your venue choice is key. Does it have a pretty ceremony space with great, natural light? A stylish area for your drinks reception? And what about some cool nooks and crannies for unique photo ops? Keep all of this in mind when scouting for the perfect place.
Lighting is Key
As with most elements of your wedding, lighting is of paramount importance. Make sure to place your gorgeous photographable details in good light. This applies to your cakes and dessert tables, backdrops and selfie stations. Nobody likes a shadowy, yellow-tinged Instagram pic, after all. Plan out the best spots to place things and make sure your venue and vendors are in on your plans.
There’s no denying it, Instagram loves a good flatlay and what better time for guests to get creative than at your wedding? Choose place settings, menus and other details that are cute enough to snap. In short, make sure the things in your guests' immediate view are 'gramable. Think colourful, tonal blooms and deadly DIY details – the tagged notifications will fly in.
Inject some personality and colour into your styling with a coherent theme. Catch your guests' eyes with pops of colour, but be sure that your chosen palette marries well with the venue. Look at a colour wheel online and pick out shades that tie in nicely – this will make for a uniform and aesthetically pleasing theme.
Personlise all of the things!
Let’s face it, everyone loves to see their name on things – especially if, like me, people tend to spell yours wrong. (No, it's not Amy, Amie, or Aime!) Personalise your guests' experience with beautifully designed place cards (double-check the spelling!) or monogram your wedding favours with guests' initials.
Backdrop it like it’s hot
It's no good having a masterpiece of a cake if it's sat against an ugly or generic wall. The same goes for all your pretty wedding details. Gorgeous exposed brick? Put your dessert table there. Colourful wall? The perfect backdrop for your DIY photo backdrop area. If your venue is not blessed with nice walls, get creative with drapes, fun, foil curtains and hanging decorations. Or go all out and get a flower wall.
The ultimate backdrop is, of course, your selfie station or photo booth. Again, we advise you to ensure you’ve placed it in a space with enough light to avoid gnarly tones. Give your guests the perfect setup with plenty of cute props for fun group shots and all those profilers that will inevitably emerge, thereafter.
Create that wow factor from the second your guests walk into the reception room with an awesome installation. Be it florals, foliage or balloons, give 'em something to snap about and create a focal point that all other décor will tie into.
Every couple wants their wedding to stand out and be that little bit different, so give your guests something to ooh-and-ahh over. For example, perspex table numbers with pressed flowers inside or a whopper, showstopping cake.
A wedding hashtag is something a lot of couples consider nowadays. It’ll be so lovely to watch the day back from different perspectives and it also gives anyone who couldn’t make it instant access, so they feel like they were there with you. When it comes to actually creating the hashtag, it can be trickier than you first think. Sometimes two names don't gel seamlessly into the perfect portmanteau. Get creative, but make it easy to remember and visible on save the dates, invites, and especially on signage around the venue.
