Bridal Fashion Week always tells a lot about what the next year's wedding dress trends are going to be, and we love getting a sneak peek at the types of gowns brides are likely to be choosing between.
This year's selection has been one of our favourites in years, with a lot of daring and dramatic silhouettes coming to the fore. Of course, many brides will already have a picture of the dress they want in mind, but for those that don't know where to start, the wedding dress trends can be very revealing - whether you immediately love or hate them!
Colourful dresses, jumpsuits and trouser suits and floral embroidery, which were huge in 2019, are all sticking around for another season (hurrah!), but there are few new standout trends. Going bare backed is bigger than ever, you will barely be able to move in bridal boutiques for all the feathered dresses, and best of all, pockets are having a major moment.
So if you're looking for wedding dress inspiration before you hit the bridal boutiques, we've picked seven of our favourite wedding dress trends for 2020 brides.
Wedding dresses with pockets
This is a trend we've been enjoying for a while, but it's about to totally blow up. And we can see why - who doesn't love a dress with pockets? There is something so charming about a wedding dress with pockets - even if you don't plan on putting a single thing in them - and it looks like designers like Inbal Dror, Eisen-Stein, Leanne Marshall and more, agree.
Wedding dresses with really high slits
Challenge Angelina Jolie's royal-level reign on super high slits with the daring cuts we've seen from Reem Acra, Ines di Santo, Berta, Eisen-Stein, and Inbal Dror, that quite literally take the slit up a notch.
Wedding dresses with belts
Irish boutique Folkster have been championing beaded belts for brides for a while now and we're predicting they won't be the only ones come 2020. Statement accessories were dominating on the 2020 bridal runway - no waist was left uncinchd by the likes of Hayley Paige, Lein, Julie Vino, and Lee Petra Grebenau.
Wedding dresses with low backs
Plunging V-necks were massive for 2019 brides and it looks like that's met its match for 2020, where the plunging V is now switched to the back. Barely there backs were seen from Ines di Santo, Lela Rose, Laure de Sagazan, and Berta. While the daring V was the main trend, if you're not feeling brave enough, the keyhole back from Carolina Herrara and Vera Wang might be a nice alternative.
Wedding dresses with corsets
Corsets aren't a stranger from the bridal runways, but this year's crop are lingerie inspired with underwire cups bringing a sexy edge to a lot of collections, including Lela Rose, Inbal Dror, Carolina Herrera and Ines di Santo.
Wedding dresses with feathers
There was certainly no shortage of feathers shown in this year's shows, but designers opting for feathered skirts, like Lela Rose, Berta, Inbal Dror, Sahroo and Naeem Khan, seemed to be leading the pact, from full feathered skirts to feathered hemlines.
Wedding dresses with big sleeves
Off-the-shoulder dresses are nothing new to weddings, but every season there's a new take and we're loving the 2020 edition. Big sleeves are updating the ubiquitous neckline, with Lela Rose, Alexandra Grecco, Rime Arodaky, Justin Alexander Signature, Monique Lhuillier, and Allison Webb showcasing 80s style puff sleeves for a real statement.
