Wedding Place/Name Cards - Unique ideas to impress your guests!

Weddings are a momentous occasion to be cherished for a lifetime. Putting unique touches small or large can help make the most of those memories. One way to personalize your wedding is by creating bespoke place cards that guests can appreciate and take home. It’s also a great fun task that you can DIY and not have to spend a fortune on. You don’t have to go all out, or use place cards that are ill-fitted to your wedding. The whole purpose of personalizing your name cards is to make them unique and represent your style, and it’s great to be able to put a bit of your own personality into every aspect of your wedding.

Wedding place cards can be as simple as finding the right type of heavy stock paper and using a specific font that matches your invitations. If so, all you need is a good printer, paper and ink – office supply stores even sell place cards specifically designed to fit in your home printer.

For a more personal touch, rope in a friend with good penmanship to handwrite the names onto the hard stock paper. First, cut 3” x 5” squares using a good pair of scissors or craft scissors with scalloped blades. Next, score the square in half. Write the name on the bottom half of the square. You can get funky gold or silver pens from any good stationary shop.

Another creative way to make wedding place cards is by getting small picture frames roughly about 3” in height. This is an excellent tool for name cards because you have so many frame designs to choose from. If you’re in a tight budget, frames are great because they are inexpensive. Silver or porcelain frames work well with a classic setting. You can also purchase a basic frame, embellish it with paint and glue flowers, ribbons … more ways to be creative and tie in with your colour scheme or theme.

Wine corks are another eye catching solution. Clean the cork thoroughly and score a line from one end to the other. Insert the name card. Cut a small section on the other side to create a flat surface.

If all that cutting seems too much like hard work and you want ready-made items, ceramic place cards are a perfect option. These come in a variety of styles and are erasable. All you need is an erasable black or coloured marker to write the name.

Tasteful luggage tags are another distinctive alternative. Look for small silver luggage tags, preferably with a black leather band. If you prefer to match the band to your colour scheme, use a satin ribbon instead.

Asian brocade snap purses are an eclectic choice that adds a punch of colour - simply insert the tag in the snap. Naturally great for an Asian-themed wedding or if you are using the colour Red (very auspicious in Chinese culture.)
