Q: I'm the maid of honour. What are some ways I can help out the bride-to-be?

A: What an honour! The bride must care a lot about you and see you as a reliable, organized person.

There are lots of little ways you can lighten the bride's burden. If there are a lot of out-of-towners you could lead the goodie bag brigade by assembling and delivering the bags to the hotel. Host the invitation assembly party at your place. Send the bride off for a treat that she wouldn't allow herself during planning like a pedicure or a movie and take over for her while she's gone for those hours. On the day of the wedding, keep her glass half full with her favourite drink (not too full as nobody likes a lush bride) and make sure the water flows her way.

Any small tasks that you can take off her hands will help her revel in pre-wedding bliss. Make sure to have all the important numbers to hand on the day so the bride doesn’t need to concern herself with any issues that arise. She will really appreciate being able to enjoy her day safe in the knowledge you have everything under control. Happy helping!

Q: Must I ask my husband’s sister to be bridesmaid?

A: No. Ultimately the day belongs to both of you so it’s vital that you're both happy with every aspect of the day. There's no right answer to this question, but don’t let the decision stress you out. If you do it may take over from all the other good things that are happening. It’s your wedding so don’t put the focus on someone or something else at the sake of your nerves.
